FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What does “made to order” mean at Orthman?

It means Orthman engineers, designs, and builds conveyor equipment specifically for your application — from complete systems down to individual replacement components. When standard catalog parts do not fit, Orthman manufactures custom screws, troughs, and assemblies to your requirements.

What custom screws can Orthman manufacture?

Orthman builds hard-surfaced screws, 3-bolt and bolt-pad screws, variable-pitch screws, oversized-pipe screws, continuous-weld screws, ribbon flighting, and shaftless screws. Screw geometry and construction are matched to the material and the process function you need.

What custom trough options are available?

Trough options include tubular, split-tube, flared, and rectangular designs; drop-bottom troughs (hinged or bolted); jacketed troughs; and shrouds. Liners are available in UHMW, carbon, stainless, or abrasion-resistant plate, with liner choice driven by how abrasive your material is.

How fast can Orthman turn around a made-to-order part?

Orthman uses lean manufacturing practices to move a project from concept to finished product in a short time. Combined with in-house fabrication and field application experience, that lets the team deliver custom parts quickly without sacrificing quality.

Can Orthman build a replacement part for an existing system?

Yes. Orthman produces made-to-order replacement components as well as complete systems, and can work from your specifications or drawings. This is especially useful for non-standard parts or older equipment that no longer matches current catalog configurations.

How does Orthman make sure a custom build is right?

Orthman takes time up front to ask the right questions and understand your application before designing the product. That combination of engineering discipline and field experience is what ensures the finished screw, trough, or system actually solves the problem at hand.
